Urban Threads Eliminates Stockouts Across 45 Retail Locations

The Challenge

Urban Threads, a fashion-forward apparel retailer with 45 physical stores and a growing e-commerce channel, was losing an estimated $3.8 million annually to stockouts on best-selling items while simultaneously holding $2.2 million in excess inventory on slow-moving styles. Inventory was managed location-by-location with manual reorder points that hadn't been updated in over a year. The buying team relied on gut feel and last season's data to plan assortments, frequently over-indexing on trend items that didn't sell through and under-ordering core basics that drove the majority of revenue. Cross-channel inventory visibility was non-existent — the e-commerce team regularly oversold items that were sitting in store stockrooms.

The Solution

Urban Threads deployed CW Suite with the Digital Store Manager, Digital Buyer, Digital Inventory Planner, and Digital CRM Executive across all 45 locations and the e-commerce channel. The Digital Inventory Planner set dynamic safety-stock levels per SKU per location based on sell-through velocity, lead times, and seasonal patterns. The Digital Buyer analyzed real-time sell-through data to adjust open-to-buy budgets mid-season and identify markdown candidates before they became aged inventory. The Digital Store Manager provided location-level performance monitoring and flagged shrinkage anomalies. The Digital CRM Executive unified customer profiles across stores and online, enabling personalized marketing that drove repeat purchases.

The Results

Within four months, stockout rates on best-selling items dropped from 12% to 2.8% — a 77% reduction. Excess inventory decreased by $1.6 million as the Digital Buyer identified slow-moving styles earlier and recommended targeted markdowns. Same-store sales grew 9% year-over-year, driven by better availability of high-demand items and personalized promotions from the Digital CRM Executive. Shrinkage decreased by 15% through anomaly detection from the Digital Store Manager. E-commerce order cancellations due to inventory unavailability dropped from 8.4% to 1.1%.
